Vinpocetine is slightly different compared to the other vinca alkaloids. It is reported to have the ability to increase blood flow to the brain and also found to have the ability to improve memory and concentration.
The product has been widely used in Eastern Europe for decades for its nootropic effects. No one really understands how it increases blood flow to the brain and all reports about its efficacy remain anecdotal.
Vinpocetine has not been thoroughly studied in humans but there are rare accounts of its side effects. The most common side effects of the drug include stomach upset, heart palpitations and a skin rash. Some individuals have even reported a drop in the White cell blood count.
Because of the possibility of allergy, it is recommended that one start with a low dose of 2 mg to ensure that the drug is safe. One can then gradually increase the dose if no rash is observed. The duration of therapy remains unknown.
